At present there are two activated Slayers - Buffy Summers and Faith. This is because Buffy was briefly drowned by a vampire called The Master, and during the short time she was dead the next Slayer Kendra was activated. Buffy was resuscitated by her friend Xander and still possessed the powers of the Slayer. Kendra was killed by the vampire Drusilla, which activated the next Slayer - Faith. Since then Buffy has died and been brought back to life once more, but this did not cause the activation of another Slayer, which suggests that the unique situation that led to Kendra’s activation can only be achieved once with each Slayer.
