Lux
Lisbon - Kirsten Dunst
You should al know about Kirsten by now! She plays Lux, the second youngest and most rebellious of the Lisbon sisters. Lux keeps her passion for smoking, drinking and casual sex a secret fro her parents but not her sisters. However, even her care-free attitude to life can't keep her from having her heart broken by Trip Fontaine . . . Kirsten's performance won her a nomination for Best Young Actress In A Drama in the 2002 Young Star Awards. |

Cecilia
Lisbon - Hanna R.Hall
Cecilia is played by Hanna R.Hall, who you might recognise from her screen debut as the young Jenny in Forrest Gump. Cecilia is the Lisbon family enigma; she is youngest but the first to take her life and no-one can understand why. Even when the boys find the journal she so proudly kept they are unable to decipher any clues to her suicide from it. What we do know is that Cecilia had a crush on the Italian exchange student in the neighbourhood, and that she loved the elm tree that grows in the Lisbon yard . . . |

Bonnie
Lisbon - Chelse Swain
Bonnie is played by Chelse Swain, sister of actress Dominique Swain. Bonnie is the middle sister at age 15 and after the death of Cecilia she becomes the quietest of the Lisbon sisters, and the most concerned with getting in trouble. At the prom she frets about Lux smelling of booze and coming home, although this doesn't stop her from trying schnapps and kissing herself. Unfortunately for Bonnie, she doesn't like it . . . Chelse is a full-time student in LA. The Virgin Suicides is her second film. |

Mary
Lisbon - A.J.Cook
Mary is played by A.J.Cook. Mary is the second oldest and one of the most friendly and polite of the Lisbon sisters, happy to play hostess when Trip visits them and unwittingly answering the questions of the newspaper reporter who pesters their parents. However she's just as disheartened as the other girls, dismissing one of the neighbour boys' attempt at friendship . . . A.J.Cook is an accomplished actress having appeared on the stage and in several feature films. |

Therese
Lisbon - Leslie Hayman
Therese is played by Leslie Hayman. At seventeen Therese is the eldest of the Lisbon sisters; she's soft-spoken and a bit like Cecilia as she remains partly a mystery. At the beginning of the film she speaks to one of the neighbour boys about her college plans, and at the prom we see her having the time of her life, happily dancing away, but we learn little else about her. All we do know is the boy who promises to call her never does . . . The Virgin Suicides is Leslie's screen debut. |

Mr
and Mrs Lisbon - James Woods and Kathleen Turner
The sisters' strict parents are played by James Woods and Kathleen Turner, two well-known and respected actors. Mr and Mrs Lisbon obviously love their daughters but have no idea of the affect their strict rules are having on them. Cecilia's death affects them both: Mr Lisbon becomes distant from reality, talking to plants, and Mrs Lisbon becomes reclusive and even more strict. When Mr Lisbon persuades Mrs Lisbon to let the girls go to the prom he has no idea of effects it will have, both short and long-term . . . |

Trip
Fontaine - Josh Hartnett
Trip Fontaine is played by Josh Hartnett. Trip is the high school heart-throb, the ultimate in cool; he smokes weed between classes and gets laid regularly. Every girl in school wants him, and every guy wants to be him . . . then by chance he meets Lux, and he's stunned when she's not interested in him. He pursues her until she finally gives in, and they have sex on the football field after the prom. For reasons he cannot explain, Trip abandons Lux there and then . . . Josh Hartnett is a well-known young star in Hollywood. |
